If you were very picky you would only use DATUM as a singular and only use DATA as a plural. Almost no one makes that distinction except in the most precise of scientific writeups.

Data is always plural. You can say "a piece of data" to indicate something in the singular.

Technically, data is the plural. Datum is the singular form.
