I think there is a valve located outside your house somewhere. I had a plumber who had to do that at our place and he turned the water off from an underground valve located at the curb.

Well, I'd start by lookig around the perimeter of your house for a valve, it could be as simple as a round faucet handle, or maybe even a lever type of handle. Either way it should be near your house, if not attached directly to your house, like on an outside wall, or it may be covered underneath what looks like a plastic green cap somewhere outside. I dont know where you live, when your house was built or if you run off of well or city water. Typically at least if you run off of city water, it would have to be near the front of the house. This allows for a plumber to make a repair should there be a burst, or if the valve goes bad. And finally, if you cant find it outside, and your house has a basement, you may wanna try looking in there if you come up empty outside, oh also try the garage. Other than that, these are the only suggestions I can give you.

If you have a basement, it will be by your furnace, water heater, etc. Right after the water pipe comes through the floor, there should be a shut off valve. If you're in a warm climate, it may be in the garage or, ours is on the outside wall of the garage.
There is a shutoff that the city can use, but you should also have one in or around your house for you or a plumber, etc can use.

ok first very few house's have a cut off in the house the main cut off is outside on your meeter you will need a water key to turn it off unless you want to lay down on the ground then a crescent wrench should work the turn off will look like a wide - sign it will be hard to turn unless it has been used a lot but air in your lines normally happens when the water is shut off or you home is not getting enough water if your on a well the turn off will be in the pump house

The main water switch is usually right by the water meter. That is where they can turn it off if you do not pay your bill. If you have a well it should be on the pump.

Usually located in your yard, but your Water Dept. should be able to tell you. Call them, they may have someone who can come out and show you where it's at. Maybe even the person who comes out to read the meter.
