It could be early labour or false labour... Do this... 1-5-1
If you are having contractions that are more then one minute long every five minutes lasting a little more then an hour you are more then likely in labour...
If they are a little more irregular and coming sporatecly then you are more then likely just having false labour...
When I went into labor with my son, I felt like I was having my period...The cramping, the cramping continued to increase into serious pain and my contractions starting coming closer together... Then I knew it was time to head to the hospital...
I am due any day and getting them shooting pains in my area and it hurts... Just do the 1-5-1 thing and you will know...
Good luck too you

The shots and pains in your vagina sounds like you are in labour. I had mild cramping for two days, contractions that were about five minutes apart for a while and I thought it was just braxton hicks. That was a rong assumption I was in labour and had no clue until I went to the hosptial at the request of my family ( I went with no overnight bag nothing because it didnt feel like labour) and was admitted and had my baby the next day. I was four cm dialeted, and it was like I had no pain at all, my water didnt break they had to break it etc....but the thing that really started the cramps was when I was walking to get a coffee and I had an extremely sharp shooting pain in my crotch.

Its normal, its not labor, its prelabor.
Real contractions are painful, cover your whole belly and back, and increase in frequency. When you have contractions that are five minutes apart for more than an hour you want to head for the hospital.
The pain in your vagina is actually normal for all parts of pregnancy. Between the weight of the baby and vericose veins, not to mention braxon hicks contractions... shooting pains in the vagina are to be expected.
Keep active, drink fluids, and get ready. It could be tonight, it could be two weeks from now, just depends on how your body goes about the labor process :)

I have experienced this quite a few times in the last few weeks. So much that I thought I was going into labor a lot of those times. But no here I am 41 weeks and going to be induced tonight. If they start to get stronger and longer and last about 5 min. apart then you are in labor and need to go to the hospital right away. Also if your water breaks. Good Luck and hope that labor goes smoothly for you!

How many weeks are you?
I am 39+4days. I have been having braxton hick for the last week and been in false labour twice in last 2 weeks.
But 2 nights ago I started having the same thing you are explaining, and it hasn't gone away since, I also have a warm sensation in lower belly with it. But nothing has happened in the way of labour yet..... I think this is our bodies preparing for labour SOON, not long for us now!!!?? YAAAYY

If the pain is a constant every 5 -10 min. and lasts longer then 60 sec. go to the Dr. If it is irregular, you could be in labor, but not far enough to worry about. Wait until the contractions regulate themselves, then you need to go to the Dr.

i would call your doctor or a midwife and explain the shooting pains and any other symptoms your having. if that still doesn't work you can go to ER and tell them you might be in labor so they can check to see if you have started. not all women have major labor pains some just get simple back pain when they are in labor. just hang in there you'll be just fine. good luck and congratulations.

You're in labor when the contractions are more consistant, stronger and get closer apart. Example evey ten minutes, then five minues etc.
