To "know" someone in the Biblical sense is to have sexual relations with them.
A lot of people with an anti-gay agenda use this passage to justify hatred towards homosexuals. It's taken out of context when one considers that rape (which is what this about more so than anything else) is a way to subjugate and humiliate a person, rather than to have sexual gratification. Many people also fail to keep in mind that the person who wrote this particular passage in Genesis may have had an agenda against the people of Sodom.

When speaking of the Bible and the term: we may know them; it always referrers to sex intimacy. Abraham knew Shara; Adam knew Eve; weddings didn't exist then as they do now with certificates and officials. So the minute you knew someone you were considered married to them.
BTW, the two men were actually Angels; spiritual entities. I wonder if that's the reason for the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah; and not sex between men?

if you read Ezekiel 16;49-50 I think it will give you a little better idea of the sins of Sodom
49 “‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.
NIV translation in my opinion it was not about sex , though Lot may have used his daughters to sway the crowd from there probable intent to be cruel to the strangers, it was common in those cities to keep the poor travelers from imposing on there over abundant lifestyle , people traveling thru the desert , starving and of thirst, that is what I get from related scriptures.

when reading the bible most times you can not just take one verse and try and understand it....you usually need to read the a couple verses ahead and a couple verses afterwards. Trust me...Gen. 38:9 (i believe that is the right reference) talks about a guy who God smote dead because he "spilled his seed on the groud" (basically he pulled out when having sex) now that sounds very harsh doesn't it? well if you read verses before and afterwards you realize why he pulled out and why God killed him. According the the Levitical law (found in deuteronomy) if a women lost her husband the next brother in law in line had to marry her and gett her preg. so that the dead mans line would continue on...now Onan disobeyed the law because he wanted his children to inherit his fathers wealth and not his dead brothers kids...so he pulled out while haveing sex with her. (and he did have to marry her before having sex with her as well...they way things were done back then...i deff would not want to sleep with any of my bf's brothers if he died on me! lol) So my point is...you propose a good question...also in Gen you'll see "and Adem KNEW eve and begat cain" from this we see the word KNEW means they slept together...so i can see where you are trying to find homosexuality in the bible...and it is there...there was deff gay people back then..no doubt...only thing is God never approved of it...says it's an abomination unto him. I was raised in a foundamental independant baptist church...but i no longer attend and disagree with alot of it all. Anyway- i'm not disagreeing with you..we're told to look to the bible for answers, but the answers usually only lead to more questions...maybe someday we'll have all the answers..who knows. Thanks for reading. tigerlily!:)*

be conscious that each and all of the verses you have quoted from got here from the previous testomony (additionally suggested as previous regulation). Jesus replaced into born interior the hot testomony. while he replaced into sacrificed, it made it so as that we no longer would desire to stay with the previous regulation. I additionally think of that alot of it somewhat is in accordance with society. The Bible does say that everyone scriptures are sensible in coaching, in spite of the undeniable fact that, no longer all scripture is revelant to society. human beings made blunders interior the Bible only as we do immediately. only because of the fact it somewhat is interior the Bible does not make it ideal, as an occasion, while David slept with yet another guy's spouse, it wasn't ideal, however the passage is sensible in coaching. We additionally would desire to seem on the salvation subject. If the Bible says that something will deliver approximately hell, then we relly would desire to seem at that and learn ourselves. No the place does it say that touching a pigskin will reason us to flow to hell. I do agree that Christians p.c.. and choose from the Bible, yet how is that distinctive from all of us else? i'm particular that maximum human beings agree that homicide is faulty (it somewhat is against the regulation), yet even however dashing is against the regulation, many human beings do it. it somewhat is human nature, we do what's handy for us. i'm a Christian, and that i think of that maximum genuine Christians assist you to comprehend that we're not ideal. we are each bit human, only as agnostics or athesists. all of us p.c.. and chosen to stay with what we %, only like all of us else. i think of perchance you will desire to alter your question to why do human beings p.c.. to stay with what they %, do no longer generalize it as only Christians. i'm hoping this clears up some issues. stable question.

They were gonna rape them. Not because they were gay but because Sodom is a fictional city made to convey the beliefs held in Abrahamism, i.e. it needed to be filled with plenty of real depravity as well as the pretentious kind. Much like Abraham himself I see no evidence in it's existence.
Oh and I love the morality in trading his virgin daughters in the angels place, such grand family values.

And considering these Judgments were made in the Old Testament, which according to the belief Jesus' coming and Death were supposed to have removed from the Laws, precisely what is your point? Are you simply making boring conversation or are you sitting back asking rhetorical questions(one's that you have already answered in your mind) in order to cast judgment upon others?
What you are doing is called HARASSMENT. Your Last question is already gone. A few more and the ID will disappear as well.
