the equation is 5x+10+-20

adding a negative number will lower the value.
10+(-20)= -10
it's the same as pretending the addition sign isn't there
10-20= -10
knowing this, you can solve your equation

5x+10+(-20)
= 5x+(-10)
add ten to each side
10 = 5x
divide each side by 5
10/5 = x
x = 2

Hope I helped : )

First off, this is not an equation. An equation needs an equal sign, as 2+3=5. With your problem, it is basically 5x+10-20.

If I'm right, it's called an expression not an equation. Equations have equal (=) signs.

For your problem 5x + 10+-20

For example you know 3-1 is 2 right. Also, -1+3 is 2 as well.
All they are saying in the problem (10+-20) is 10 plus -20.
10 + -20 = -10. So your answer would be:

5x -10 simplify -> 5(x-2)

Hope that helps you

5x + 10 + (-20) ok basically you go with the bigger numbers sign. if -20 is the bigger number (and it is....) you cannot make it positive, so subtract the positive from the negative 20, leaving -10. so now your equation reads:

5x + (-10) now divide by 5 (isolate the x)
________
5

answer x = -2 (count negative 10 and positive 5 = odd number = negative answer)

the reason it is a negative 2 is when you are mulitplying or dividing positive and negative numbers, you count them, odd number = negative answer, even number = positive answer.

hope this helped!!!!

5x + 10 + -20 =
5x + 10 - 20 =
5x - 10

just subtract

it is just the same as a regular equation.
it can also be written as:
5x+10-20=
5x-10
if you factor it it is 5(x-2)
but without an equals sign, nothing can actually be solved.

your answer would be....

5x+10+-20
5x+-10

unless you have an equation like 18=5x+7 (example) that's all the farther you can go. let me know if you got anymore questions.
