Hi,
Isn't Ramadan more equivalent to Lent, than a national day of celebration?!? Both involving periods of change and sacrifice.
Paddy's Day, although religiously linked, is an Irish holiday. Most countries have national days of celebration regardless of creed. Paddy's Day is celebrated by us Irish be they Roman Catholic or not...
Not that I'm against spending the day in the pub, but I don't think its what St Pat had in mind ;)

Yup, you're right. Those Muslims have to learn how to lighten up ! St. Patrick's day also calls to mind those things that are good, and the fact that we can celebrate together is one of them . Slaint ! Erin Go Braugh !

to the person who asked about ramadan being a bit like lent - yes it is! the month might be hard but worth it and its also a bit like advent in a way as while muslims enjoy ramadan (every evening when muslims break fast is a mini party!) we are also looking forward to Eid-al-fitr (festival of the end of ramadan) when muslims go to the mosque as a family (like christians go to church on christmas day) the children get new clothes and presents and everyone eats nice things and enjoys themselves.

I agree: having a pint of that black stuff is definitely healthier than stuffing oneself with sweet stuff after sunset.
And also I like the name Patrick, it's so nice

You can't compare the month of Ramadhan to St Patrick's day. As a Muslim I find Ramadhan to be a very blessed and rewarding month. Ramadhan is about learning to have self-control, to understand the hardship of less fortunate people.. all this makes you a more humble person.
