I think my hamster has an Abcess ( I think the spelling is right? lol) any ways, He has like this little lump thing on his stomach, I really can't see it to well, it looks more like it is just his skin but I can feel it, and I think there is a little bit of stuff coming out of it, any ways, I am almost positive it isn't cancer or a tumor because it hasn't gotten any bigger ( I noticed it like 2 weeks ago) and he is acting 100% normal and I read on the internet that if is a tumor or cancer it will grow reapidly and they will be acting sick and you really won't realize it until it is to late, but yea I think it is an Abcess, Do you think I am right. Also, if it is a abcess, will it go away eventually on its own, I don't think I can take him to the vet, so if it is an Abcess and it won't go away on its own, can you guys tell me how to help and make it go away. One last thing, an abcess can't kill them can it? I really really don't want my hammy to die, I love him to much! Okay thank you!!

Our hamster, Jack had this about a year ago.
Abcesses *CAN* hurt a hamster, because they are infected. I remember that Jack's was a red and swollen, it looked really painful. After a while, it started to turn greenish/yellow because of all the pus building up inside of it, and we were really afraid that it would burst (if it does, it can become even more infected, and has a greater chance of harming your hammy).
We took Jack to the vet, and they gave us some fruit flavored antibiotic to give to him by syringe 3 times a day. The results were amazing! Within a week, he was better; the thing had completely recessed, and there was NO raw, red skin or swelling, it was all healthy flesh. Honestly, the best, safest, most effective thing to do would be to go to the vet for some antibiotics. Your hamster might end up bursting it himself (because it's underneath him, and while walking he might scrape it and burst it). You DO NOT want the abcess to burst, because then it's like the point of no return, and your hamster will be almost guarenteed not to get better.
Please take him to the vet before it gets too bad/infected, and before it bursts. You won't regret it, trust me.

Abcesses are potentially harmful because they are the result of infection. My hamster had one, but I took him to the vet to get checked out. Your best bet is to find a vet who has experience with hamsters and who will be able to prescribe antibiotics.
