i asked a question about unconditional love and i was just wondering why so many people are jaded about the existence of real, true love in today's society?

Because people confuse unconditional love with a Hollywood-hyped version of romantic love. The truth is we must work, pay bills, tend to families, etc. We can't just run off into the sunset on horses while it rains rose petals. She isn't going to meet us at the door holding a wine glass, wearing a teddy, and acting like a porn star. If people realize this isn't real love they won't be so jaded. True love is when you've seen the worse and best in them and still would rather be with them than anyone else.

Of course real, true love exists in huge numbers and always will. I think the secular progressive media has so vilified anything tranditional as corny and suspicious. Advertisers and those who produce talent and sell it are literally whores selling out a generation or two of young people who only get their information from the flashy, quick-fix sources such as My Space, Yahoo QA, videos, internet and the films that are made specifically for the 12-18 year olds. Notice how the young people in QA think nothing of "moving in" with some guy/girl they've known for maybe a week or so. They actually do not believe there is a downside as long as they "love" each other. Oddly enought, that is "unconditional" love, in other words, she's hot for him, he's hot for her and so they shack up. A couple of months later the girl/woman is on QA asking how she can "change" her b.f. to what he was before they shacked up. The answer is they can't because what he is now is what he was before but women/girls do not want to see the unvarnished truth. So, it is a given that these women will most likely not experience "real, true love" in their lifetime. They skipped the morals, values and ethics part of "love" and they got the bottom dwellers.
People are jaded about love because they sell out early and then feel that true love is something that doesn't exist because we never get what we want when we sell out.

Because today the lover is a rebel. The lover thinks too much and doesn't adhere to average everyday rules or guidelines. I quit my job and took a pay cut so I could spend more time with my girl. I love her and don't want to waste my time with working all the time. What do we work so much for? A new car? Shopping at the mall? Eating out at restaurants all the time? Trying to impress others? It's all vanity. It's pointless.

I love and believe in love without restraint. Its the most perfect human emotion. We do not need to hold it back for business. This society we live in today vilifies sex, glorifies violence, and condemns acting on emotion. Therefore the lover will never fit into this capitalistic prison. The only thing we have to lose is our chains. Peace

You know, I don't know why, and it's very, very sad that we are all so cynical these days. What ever happened to romance and hope and love? Maybe as we get older, and live longer, we see and feel more. More of the pain and evil in the world, and we become jaded. 9-11, New Orleans, terrorism, deaths, diseases. With all the bad news, it's tough to stay upbeat and non-critical.

All the news coverage and the TV programs that treat human relations so lightly are probably particially to blame.

That and the fact that so many people use divorce to take care of marital problems, and not working at settling the problems themselves.

How many people do you know that DON'T have a divorce in their close family??

I would say based on the law of averages, most of the people who are online looking to vent aren't exactly living it up in the real world... so your question isn't a bad one, but the pool of people you are asking is the problem. If you did a street survey, you'd probably get a different answer.

Not that everyone on here is an unhappy online raver, but you get my point.

Many people have been hurt and build walls and forget to allow others back in, they forget there really is good out there if you just open your eyes and your heart to it.

Have a GREAT day!

baby girl, since most of us had been burned to a crisp before, we no long will to have our hearts expose to the uncertainty of the world out there. sure, there'll be a special person that would come a long, and just melt you to a fudge. but instinctively, we keep out heart out of harms way.
