My son is a good student. He does very well in reading and math but his penmanship is very sloppy looking. He writes almost as if he were in kindergarten. I have him do some extra writing from time to time but not too much. Is there any good resources to help with this problem?

If you have a teacher supply store in your area they frequently have writing sheets for kids to trace and stuff. If it's remotely legible or if the teacher hasn't commented on it, don't worry too much. Third grade is still fairly little and it will improve with time. Or maybe he just has ambitions to be a doctor (just kidding).

actully i can help you with this my brother had this problem also what my mom did was went in and talked to his teacher and ask if we could have a hand writing book that they weren't using he did some every other day we even made copies of some of the pages he had trouble on it inproved his hand writing about 20% you could probably go to walmart, staples or somewhere that sell workbooks and they'd probably have a book there too.

Practice, practice, practice.

This is, of course, a big non-issue. Lyndon B. Johnson was president of the United States, and his handwriting was so completely illegible, it's legendary.

Teach your kid to type using the computer. That's a more useful skill than handwriting.

My suggestion would be to increase the time you have him do extra writing. Start off by you writing things then having him trace it and then continue to write them by himself. Good luck hope he does better soon.
