I think it's Angie by the Stones.
It's not my favourite song, although i do like it. I just think it showed why they were probably the geatest rock band of their time. The lyrics fit the music perfectly and it melds brilliantly with mick jagger's voice which is at times just a whisper. Say what you want about the stones, but they were brilliant musicians.

I mean, so many people can say Lennon's Imagine is the greatest song, as they do, but theres really nothing to that song either, apart from perhaps his best vocal.

some other songs that should definately rank are:
Fleetwood Mac - Dreams
Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
Neil Young - Helpless

It's not about what you like really, but about what is a brilliant song.

My fav song is probably Brain Damage by Pink Floyd because its reallly good and its been the first band tribute to Syd Barrett (1946-2006). It talks about his mental illnesses. Its sad but an awesome song.

Halfway Hotel by Voyager - 1979.
Never even made the top 30, but I rate it as the greatest song and production ever!

Hi!

It has to be Different Corner by George Michael!

The arrangement. The production. The lyrics. EVERYTHING about it is brilliant.

I have about three versions of it on my Ipod, and when it starts to play the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! LOVE IT!

Not too keen on Georgie Porgy's stuff nowadays though, I'm afraid!

Sugar Mice - Marillion.

Why? Just read the lyrics.

I was flicking through the channels on the TV
On a Sunday in Milwaukee in the rain
Trying to piece together conversations,
Trying to find out where to lay the blame

But when it comes right down to it there's no use trying to pretend
For when it gets right down to it there's no one here that's left to blame,
Blame it on me, you can blame it on me
We're just sugar mice in the rain

I heard Sinatra calling me down through the floorboards
Where you pay a quarter for a partnership in rhyme
To the jukebox crying in the corner
While the waitress is counting out the time

For when it comes right down to it there's no use trying to pretend
For when it gets right down to it there's no one really left to blame,
Blame it on me, you can blame it on me
We're just sugar mice in the rain

I know what I feel, know what I want I know what I am
Daddy took a raincheck
Cos I know what I want, know what I feel I know what I need
Daddy took a raincheck, your daddy took a raincheck
Ain't no one in here that's left to blame but me
Blame it on me, blame it on me

Well the toughest thing that I ever did was talk to the kids on the phone
When I heard them asking questions I knew
That you were all alone, Can't you understand that the
Government left me out of work, I just couldn't stand the
Looks on the faces saying what a jerk

So if you want my address it's number one
At the end of the bar
Where I sit with the broken angels clutching at straws and
Nursing the scars, blame it on me, blame it on me
Sugar mice in the rain, your daddy took a raincheck
Your daddy took a raincheck

I like "Who's Gonna Drive You Home" by The Cars
It's a very sad song, but it's often played in the background for Comic Relief or Children in Need and so is also a very hopeful song. Good question - keep 'em comin'!
