When I was a real little kid, it was "Them", giant mutant ants in the desert. (and actually a well made film with James Whitmore)
When I was about 9, "The Fly" the original. "Help me!, Help me!"
Carrie for the final scene when Carries hand comes out of the rubble and grabs dreaming Amy Irving! Yikes! I never saw that coming! Good John Travolta role, too
But Number One on the Soil My Drawers list is Alien. The first one is the most tense film I've ever seen. No relaxation in that one. Even Sigourney Weaver in a tank top can't distract you from looming horror. The Alien isn't shown so much, not like the next frew in the Alien series. In those you get pretty used to the ugly rascals. Great sets, very scary.

I remember when I was little being totally freaked out by an old black and white movie titled 'The Spiral Staircase,' which looking back on it now was just a generic murder mystery but very well done.
The plot is this woman has become mute because she saw her whole family burn to death in their house and she couldn't do anything to help them. Now she is living in this huge house with all these other people (standard for the genre at the time) and the people are slowly being killed off one by one. From the killer's viewpoint, all of the victims are seen without some part of their body before they are killed (there is just a white space where the heroine's mouth should be). At the end, we find out that the killer is the aristocrat sort of guy whose father had instilled in him that any sort of physical deformity or weakness has to be weeded out of the human breeding stock. He then chases her up the spiral staircase, but the hero suddenly shows up and saves the day.

The Birds, by Alfred Hitchcock
The Exorcist
Pretty scary to watch when your 8-10 yrs old. I remember all the hype about the Exorcist and had to watch it. My parents went out one evening and I thought I would sneak to watch it, they came home early. I was so scared I couldn't get up to turn the TV off. Too Funny!
