Due to the baby getting bigger and the head being engaged in the pelvis causes all that tension. I am pregnant and due any day now with my second child and this has been happening to me for sometime now as well. The stomach tensing that you are feeling are actually contractions...It is your uterus getting ready to give birth... They will increase in frequency and get more intense as the pregnancy progresses... Everything will be okay...

Yeah, Its going to be painful for the last few weeks. Ive had 3 babies and Im pregnant with my 4th and Im not looking forward to being in pain walking, sitting or doing anything for that matter. Its normal to feel like this. I always felt like the baby was just going to fall out. You are also experiencing the Braxton Hicks COntractions which are also normal. Im 20 weeks and already am getting that tense feeling. Hope all goes well for you. Good Luck

I had this in both of my pregnancies. I had something called symphisis pubis dysfunction, where your pubic ligaments stretch that wee bit too much. It's very painful; I had to wear a support belt for my first; your midwife could get one for you. I have to say that there are basic toning exercises you can do, but personally I still have a mild version now. It usually gets triggered by pushing something heavy with my foot or striding too far (over a gap or the like). See someone about it asap; it's important they know for when you give birth, and you shouldn't have to put up with the pain. As for the tightening, sounds just like Braxton Hicks. Good luck with everything!

The stomach going hard thing sounds like Braxton Hicks contractions - they are sort of practice for the real thing. The last few weeks of pregnancy can be jolly uncomfortable. Best to have a word with your midwife, though. She can answer all your questions. By the way, my twins were born at 29 weeks, and they're fine.
Look after yourself, and all the best!

I'm at 40 weeks and 4 days and I started feeling those pains in my legs around 36 weeks. It's pretty normal. I can barely walk or get out of bed these days, after gaining 35 pounds. All that belly resting on your legs gets tiring and it takes its toll. The tensing and going hard feeling are Braxton-Hicks contractions! Your body is getting ready for the real thing. Good luck with your baby!

As you get closer to delivery and as the baby gets lower into the birth canal/pelvic area you can have pain in the groin. Your pelvis is literaly spliting to make way for your new little person. Things that can take some of the pressure off are to get in a pool or large body of water so that your belly can float a little. Also resting on your side and half a butt cheak rather then your whole butt and back. The "slumped" posture will add to the pressure. Another trick is to get on all fours (be sure someone can help you back up) and just let your belly hang. Arch your back and then hang again.
Good Luck!!

Is this your first pregnancy? If you aren't sure speak to your midwife. I would say its ligaments stretching and the tummy hardening are 'braxton hicks' contractions. Just practice ones getting you ready. Your pelvis is painful now as the weight of the baby's head is pressing down so I wouldn't worry too much.
Practice pelvic floor exercises it will be beneficial after baby is born.

it could very well mean that. I know I did have pain in my stomach before I found out that the baby had indeed engaged. But the baby could also be getting engaged and then coming back out by flipping back around. I would say something to your doctor at your next visit to make sure they check that everything is ok.

things get pretty uncomfortable i.e. pressure and ligaments loosening ready for birth - any concerns should be checked out with your midwife - stomach tensing is probably just practice contractions called braxton hicks. good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy and birth xx

I've got very similar symptoms and I'm 35 weeks.
Spoke to my midwife yesterday and she said it sounds like the baby's head might be engaged, although I have to go and see her tommorrow for an examination to be sure.
