I like answering these questions because after years and years of PC I switched over to a Mac. I love my mac. Everyone below is right. Mac's are more expensive because they are all great computers. Apple doesn't make a bad product. You do have to learn how to OSX. It's really great. It does take some time though. If I ever have a problem I just type my question in the google search bar in safari and there is a site answering the questions. Mac's are pretty and stylish. They are beautiful machines and you would have a hard time finding a PC that looks as cool. I spend weeks trying to find what I wanted in a new notebook and couldn't find it. All the new HP's with their graphics cases were ugly. The Viao's, my second choice, was still pretty awkward to me. If you buying a desktop the Mac's are awesome it's all one piece! New parts aren't really an issue. Apple sells a 3 year all encompassing warranty that will fix any issue for free within reason. You can't dump a cup of coffee on the keyboard and expect them to replace it. They are also right about games. They don't make a lot of games for mac. It's really easy to buy a copy of windows and install it with their bootcamp software. Lets put it this way. If computers are a big thing in your life and you don't mind spending money on getting an amazing system that is much better than windows in many ways. Windows has its pros too but I'm biased. Just go get a mac. You wont be disappointed. Just don't turn into one of those people that become apple snobs. It's hard to do though. ;-) Good luck.

forget all the Mac haters who replied. heres an educated answer.
What do you want to do with your computer ?
Both Mac and PCs can do "ALMOST" everything each other can.
PCs have 1001+ programs that do the same thing, where as a Mac might only have 101
PCs, when out of the box have a ton of icons on the desktop to programs you will never use. A Mac has 1 icon, the harddrive.
PCs have 100million viruses each year and can destroy everything you put on it. A Mac has no viruses, so your stuff is safe.
PC 3rd party accessories require you to download and install Drivers' to make them work. A Mac doesnt, it just works.
Mega/Giga hertz (MHz / Ghz) isnt compareable when going from a Mac to a PC. Each machine processes information different. Where 1Ghz on a PC could mean 2 Ghz on a Mac
There are pros and cons to each machine. Do your homework and learn what each thing represents. Go to (Circuit City or Best Buy) and get some info about PCs there and visit an Apple store and get info about a Mac there.
I myself am a Mac user for 10+ yrs and never had a problem going back and forth from PC to Mac in the business, school, and gaming world.

Okay, obviously the people here are PC users.
After using windows from day 1, last year I bought a Mac. I found the transition from Windows to the Mac to be very easy. Even with things that were different, it was easy to figure out, I found the Mac to be more intuitive.
Last year, Apple was awarded desktop, notebook and server of the year. A few months ago, some compared a new Apple to a comparable Dell and found the Apple to be cheaper. The new Apples can also run Windows and all Window software.
I don't have a problem with viruses or hangs. I love my Apple to death. I don't have to run programs like defragment, which is a common windows performance problem, because the Apple OS periodically checks if I did to defragment and does it automatically.
Consumer Reports rated Apple Support #1.
I have found maybe 3 programs that I want to get but don't exist for the Apple, but I found similar ones at a comparable price.
If you are a heavy gamer get a PC. If you are a regular person who want to enjoy their computer, not suffer with it -- get an Apple.

macs are user friendly they dont get viruses as easy as regular pcs almost never, Mac now has a version that can talk to regular pcs Macs dont break down as often as other computers. Only those who have never used a Mac are against them. oh ya its easier to program things into it as well without going through a million different steps. yes it is true that finding software for mac is a little harder but the mac people are starting to come around and there is more coming out.

If you are computer illiterate you deffinately want to get a PC over a Mac. PC's are more self explanitory other than Mac's they can be really hard to learn and there software and hardware are a whole lot more expensive where as the PC software and hardware is affordable.

You don't. Apple bots are for snotty, elitist people who like to look down on others and can afford the high prices. If Apple computers were really better would they have made them compatible with PCs?

Macs are easy to use, but there's not much software available for them. This may not be a problem now, but once you get a hang of it, you'll see all the cool things out there are Windows-only. PCs are cheaper, too.
