Most 6 weeks olds will sleep 3-4 hours at a time. Some will sleep 6-7 hours and if you are very lucky (like I was) they start sleeping 10 hours a night.

My pediatrician recommended that my 6 week old have one chunk of no more than 4 hours at night so that I could still stick to the 8 feedings in a 24 hour period or every 2-3 hours for breastfeeding.

My six week old would wake up every 3-4 hours. I would feed her and then she would go right back to sleep. Don't let anyone try to convince you that your baby should be sleeping through the night at that age (I had every other person tell me that I should focus on getting my daughter to sleep through the night when she was just three months old). If your baby wakes up, it means that she needs something...especially at that age.

Hope this helps!

Remember that 6 weeks ago they were asleep all the time and only up for a few minutes at a time. It's really up to their metabolism and you shouldn't worry about keeping them on schedule during the day. Just make sure you keep the baby up for a little while when its awake, interacting and playing or talking to the baby. The way you set up your night schedule should not be the same or the baby will expect you to stay up with them, feed them, change them and go back to sleep. Good luck.

I don't think there should be an expectation at this age. They are still new to all around them, and figuring out eating habits.
I've had nights where my babies slept 6-8 hours, and nights during growing spurts or gassy tummy where they were up more than every 2 hours.

I think you are just going to make it harder on yourself if you have an idea in your mind of how long you think they SHOULD be sleeping....

If you are breastfeeding, baby will probably still be feeding every 2-3 hours at that age. MAYBE one longer stretch of around 4 hours of sleep per day.

I would say 3-4 hours at a time. They have tiny stomachs and they need to eat at least 3-4 hours.

They are sleeping a lot anyway. The baby sleeps in his own rhythm. He's not doing 8 hour shifts yet.

Every baby is different. Some babies sleep through the night earlier than others. If they get hungry they will wake up.
