The day that people stop fussing about slavery is when it will really be over. If you were to look at the history of the past and the history that's being made today, there has been a very small part that has changed in the history of slavery. All you have to do is go down into the inner city and see that there is still a large number of Black Americans still living in apartment buildings that I would not allow my dog to roam around in, shacks,Shanty's, families living out of cardboard boxes. Having to live with substandard schooling. Martin L King had a dream that all people would no matter what color would be free: free from oppression, free from starvation, free from being poor, and most of free from slavery; that day has yet to come about, so I hope to God that people will never stop their fussing until that day comes and I hope that you can take a better look at what is really going on before you say "get over it".

It's the lefties and liberals trying to make you feel guilty for things that you didn't do to people who have been long dead. Once they have got you feeling guilty, then they can convince you that you should make amends by allowing endless immigration etc etc. Anyway, the Arabs were involved in the slave trade as well as African tribes enslaving each other. There were never any slaves in the British Isles and it was Britain that ended it. You never hear anything about young boys being forced up chimmneys to clean them or children working in the mills for twelve hours each day. If that isn't slavery, what is? However, they were white.

Unlike Gerty, I have a different perspective. Being raised in one of the states that suffered through Reconstruction (Keep in mind that New York was the last slave state of the US, in 1868, which was AFTER the Civil War), the history we learned is far different than that which is taught up north. After Atlanta was burned, the Union Army razed a path one mile wide through the state, destroying infrastructure intentionally, as they went, and collecting quite a number of emancipated slaves in tow. However, just after razing the state capital (Social Circle, I think it was), the army constructed bridges to march across a river, then immediately destroyed them, so that they would not have to care for the emancipated slaves, as was mandated, by Federal Law. The emancipated were left, stranded by their liberators.

After the Reconstructionist Military Governor was installed, the Democrats were told they were under censure, since they had seceeded from the Union. If anyone was found to have had dealings with the Confederal Government, their properties were seized and sold. Their right to vote was taken away. They had to pay ungodly fines. Indeed, the South had been broken so hard, that many areas of the South did not recover until the 1960's or later. I do believe we Southerners have no taste for slavery, nor do we wish to associate with anyone who wants to raise sand in the issue. Just leave us alone, and let us try to have our lives back.

because that is an outstanding cop out. besides the undeniable fact that equality is the birthright of all persons, they take it a step extra. even as Taylor quick replaced into interrupted by Kanye West who stood up for Beyonce no racist declare replaced into made. If Taylor interrupted Kanye and reported that Kelly Clarkson must have received, there might want to were a huge racism hoopla. that is overdone. also @ ElDuderino, good! i assume being gassed and deemed the scum of the earth is a lot more effective good? both confronted oppression little doubt yet you do not listen Jews lamenting about how their ancestors were murdered do you?

Unfortunately slaves are still being traded all over the world, including the United States, so it isn't just part of our history it is part of our current lives. The slaves of today may not be sold at public auctions and they may not be sold as slaves only because of their race but it is still an issue. So this is something that we, as responsible citizens, should not just "get over" instead you could do some research and find a way to help the people that are enslaved today so that maybe, one day they will be able to "get over it."

it was a big part of history, like hitlers haulocast (sp) but people should really start to get over it and help peopel who are slaves right now! i have to admit im sick of peopel always using the fact that it was only slaves that went through pain and that.there were other countries wwhere bad things happened. but i dont see them complaining, i dont even see much people knowing whqt happened.

The Reverend Al Sharpton, a black civil rights activist in the US once said, when talking about this theme I believe something to the effect, If someone attacks you and throws you in the gutter that is wrong and he has a problem, but if you are still lying there two weeks later complaining, that's your problem"

Perhaps there is a balance we should not forget that it happened but like the Holocaust is it fair to continue to stigmatise Germany?

yeh i think it may have something to do with the fact we havent learnt from history and the western governments are basicky slowly and incramentally enslaving us ,I.D cards ,bio metric finger printing, taking DNA ,face recognition in cctv footage ,retina scans, sat nave micro chips created by M.I.T the size of a tic tac to be implanted in the arm been done in the states.there bringing in one world government trying to bring in one world money system all numbers just using your finger to pay for things sounds like science fiction yet science fact look it up for your self ,also this is just the tip of the ice berg ,the 4th reiche coming to a place near you.sick bastards they can stick there new world order.

Then what about the Holocaust...or the attack on the World Trade Center...or any other horrific episode in the history of humanity? We remember because it was devastating and the suffering from it will continue long past when the laws have changed and the politicians stop talking about it. For better or worse, it is part of who we are as a people, a nation, and a world.

i agree, people should get over it, there was that programme where those 2 black guys went to visit where they would have been brought up if not for slavery and they thanked god it had happened because they now don't have to live in a mud hut.
I realise this isnt true for everyone but hey it happened it was bad it stopped. End of.
