I have cable dsl, and the computer seems to be working all the time. with the hard drive led blinking all the time. the connection status keep sending info from my computer, I have a firewall but I can't stop the data flowing from my computer.
any help???

disconect the ethernet cable.

The best thing that can be done is get your self a copy of complete firewall protection software such as Zonealarm.
It really works.

disable your Local Area Connection ( Control Panel-Network Connections) that suits your connection type (ethernet or something like that) if it disturbs you to have your internet running with a firewall that doesnt seem to do its job!!
then simply enable it when u want to use the net.
u might want to add a shortcut to ur desktop :-)

If you are using Outlook Express or some other pop based email client it occasionally checks the email mail server for new emails.

if you have spyware on your computer it sends reports back to it's owner. plus various other things are going on.

get into the cmos and see if your computer has a remote wakeup sensor on the lan..if it does..shut it off.
