Just to give you an idea, I was 4 cm dilated and 80% effaced for 2 weeks. My doctor kept telling me that he didn't think I would make it to my next appointment, but I shocked him everytime! Labour could start anytime now, but it also could take weeks. I also was having contractions for about a week, but I was having back labour so whenever I went into the hospital because I thought I was in labour they hooked me up and sent me home because they couldn't detect my contractions as they were not as strong because it was all in my back. I thought for sure that i would deliver the same day after my doctor told me I was 4 cm, but like I said it took weeks. I wouldn't listen to what they tell you because unless your water has broken, they can't tell you when it'll happen, and it just gets you all excited and worked up. Once you see your mucus plug, that is an indication that labour will start within the next 24-48hrs. With me I delivered my son less than 24 hrs after my mucus plug came out, and my water never actually broke on it's own, the doctor broke it for me, and my son was born 2 hours later.
As for the hardening of your uterus, if it doesn't hurt then it's probably what they call braxton hicks contractions (your body preparing itself to push your baby out). Once your contractions start to get painful you'll know it, and my advice to you is stay at home as long as you can, unless your water has broken, stay at home until your contractions are 5 minutes apart, but make sure you call your doctor and let them know what is going on and they'll tell you further what to do!
Congrats, and good luck!!

Yeah it is getting ready to start contracting 2 means you are 2 cm and you need to be at a 10 to deliver 70% effaced I have know idea.... I vaguely remember them saying this but not in what context.

I stayed that way for almost a month... You will know when your labor really starts.... your back may ache a little, then a few pains far apart... but unless your water breaks or you live a while from the hospital stay at home as long as possible you will be more comfortable.... I took my own pillows, blankets everything glad i did 2 I had a c-section so I was very comfy after a long labor...

You are having contractions they may not be strong enough to hurt yet though or they could just be braxton hicks contractions. You will probably have the baby sooner then later. Make sure that all your plans for the hospital will come through so that this day will be GREAT. GOod Luck and Congrads.

you can be 2 cm dialated for as long as a month or so. i dont know your due date, but your baby has dropped into the pelvic area and this may cause you to be uncompfortable and cramped. you are in no rush yet. make sure your hospital bag is packed, and ready to go.

It could mean something, it could mean little. It could stop and hold or it could progress within the hour.
