Yes, but it needs to be a Verizon branded phone. You can't buy an unlocked phone and activate it to Verizon service. If you're looking on eBay or something, make sure that it is a Verizon phone before you buy it. Verizon is a CDMA carrier which means that it does not use SIM cards. SIM cards or unlocked phones will only work with GSM carriers like Cingular or T-Mobile.

You won't need to extend your plan to change phones on Verizon. If you activate a new phone on an existing plan over the phone, they will charge you $20. You should activate it online or in a Verizon indirect store.

yes you should be able to do that. My friend did the same thing with Sprint. You should just have to take the phone into the store and have them activate it on their network. You may have to extend your plan when you do it.
