They've actually won nine pennants, not seven - 1901, 1902, 1903, 1909, 1925, 1927, 1960, 1971, and 1979. The first two came before the advent of the World Series.
They've also won 5 World Series titles, with the last again being the "We are Family" group in 1979.

The Pirates have won the National League Championship 7 times. The last time they won the pennant was 1979.

The term "Pennant" is derived from the league championship flag awarded to the winners of both the American and National Leagues.
The additional two titles that the Pirates won, did NOT include winning a pennant, as their were no leagues to be won.

i'm going to roll with Craig S on this one. 9 times, 79 being the last time. for the last couple decades the Pirates have been a TERRIBLE team! although their ball park is awesome and they have an elite grounds crew. maybe someday they will be good again, but not in this decade.
