Run the fix it wizard
1. Right click START
2. Select EXPLORE
3. In the "Explore" window LEFT panel
scroll down to D: Drive >
4. Right click D Drive > select Properties
5. On tab HARDWARE > in window for all disks > select CD Rom option >
6. DOUBLE click to open window Properties for this device > at the bottom most
option for "Device Usage" click the little arrow on the right side of that window to ENABLE.

If this does not solve your problem:

then below click button TROUBLESHOOT
7. Go through the wizard and answer the questions.

8. If you need a new driver, in Device Manager double click your device to determine the manuafacturer >
go online to mfr. site to download free driver update to your desktop .
9.On your desktop install the new driver.
10. Restart your computer

How do you know this? Did you check the Device Driver?

Click Start
cl Settings
cl Control Panel
double-cl System
cl Hardware
cl Device Driver

Find the drive
right-cl on it and select Properties
It will tell you if it is working properly and give you an option to update the driver.

when loading the computer, press f1 or esc or what ever it is to enter the setup screen, when in this, look around and it should give a list of all hardware like your disk drive, and ther should be an option to disable it or enable it.

You will need to go into your BIOS... when your computer is first booting up, watch for something like "F2 to enter Setup" or "hit DEL to enter setup". This is the keystroke to enter your BIOS setup. Once in the BIOS, you should see a menu to help you determine where your disk can be enabled and disabled.

you might try going into device manager and seeing if it is diabled there. To get there right click...my computer...click properties and then click on device manager and see if it may be disabled there.
