I hate it too. I can barely read it! Not to mention like you said that it is lazy, ignorant and there is no need for it. Most of the people that talk like that are 12 year olds.

I think it's laziness, and it's understandable if someone doesn't know the english language that well...but actually, people who are learning english know it better than the ones who've grown up with it. The ones who are learning the language learn the rules. It takes me longer to type like that than like this. o_o;
It's stupid and lazy.

Highly annoying and the epitome of lazy.
Almost makes me feel like my grandmother in that it makes me want to say things like, "Back when I was young we had full words and complete sentences". Only to be met with eyes rolling.

omg lyk lols! I find it actually takes longer to read things typed like that, and yes, it is indeed quite irritating. I wonder if people who type like that realise that it makes them appear stupid an incapable of typing correctly. Each to his or her own way of typing, I suppose.
luv ya huni, lols!

I am with you on this! It's sad that the new generation will be making legal documents, doctor's notes, newspapers, and street signs with as many letters as it takes to spell I.Q.

maybe it's a crossover from text messaging (the abbreviating part), and the misspelling of this and like ('dis' and "lyk')is just kids slang.

Yes! Spell it out, people. You've got a full keyboard and built-in spell-check. This is not a text message.

I think this is a valid question. I also find it annoying but I think mostly younger (20 and under) people do it.

It is pretty annoying. It takes longer to read because it's hard to understand. I don't think that it actually saves people time in typing.

I feel exactly as you feel. There is a special place in Hell reserved for the person/people that invented the "internet lingo" as I call it.
