Now that's taken me RIGHT BACK down Memory Lane!!
Blimey, it's over 30 years ago!
I feel really, really bad about it now. Our rag n bone man had a walk like a pigeon his head went back n forth, and he used to push a two handled, two wheeled barrow! His head went back n forth, and we used to run after him giving cheek.
If I thought he might be reading this, I would apologise unreservedly, but he's probably dead by now!
I've just remembered, I used to say a prayer for him that his head would get mended!!!

We used to have one who used to come round Blackburn in the Summer months, his dad used to also come round to peoples houses and ask if we had any knives that needed sharpening, that was about 23 years ago

we do get metal man he comes to get your old cookers fridges etc but that is in open back lorry
