See if you can get hold of a copy of Daniel Pool's book, _What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew:
From Fox Hunting to Whist - the Facts of Daily Life in 19th-Century England_.

Very, very readable and interesting!---seriously! The latter portion has a glossary of terms; the first portion has good overview information on just about every portion of British daily life---including etiquette, social standing, and the rather complicated social/party customs.
