Yes, money is so much a necessity in today's world.
The use of money provides an alternative to bartering, which is often considered to be inefficient because it requires a coincidence of wants between traders, and an agreement that these needs are of equal value, before a transaction can occur. The efficiency gains through the use of money are thought to encourage trade and the division of labor, in turn increasing productivity and wealth.
There's the problem - "increasing wealth." We need money to pay bills, to obtain things that we really feel we need (i.e., clothes, jewelry, etc.) and once you get a certain level of comfort, you might want a little more - making money quite valuable in our lives. My son joked with me once and said that I was making money my life because I lacked the desire to part with it.
Though money is not important to me aside from having enough to pay bills and do the things I want to do with the comfort level I am accustomed. Life without money...I shudder to think what my life would be without money. I would be on the streets, looking like an unkempt bum needing a thorough cleansing, hungry, and wondering how the heck I managed to be without money. No, that's not the vision I want to see. I guess I enjoy having money too much! :)
Good question!

Now consider this: Prophecy says we will have a cashless society before the end. Things are already headed that way. No cash. Only a card, with your info chip, which works the same as a credit card, or a debit card, actually. Your info tells them you have credit for a certain amount, and you can spend only that much, unless you have a good credit rating. Basically the same , except there is no cash. This is the beginning of the mark of the beast. The military already uses the card with the chip. Check it out for yourself. The general population will follow suit before long. After a while, they will say to prevent theft of the cards, the chip should be placed in the hand, or forehead with a corresponding mark to let them know where yours is. You will not be able to buy or sell, unless you have the mark. What will YOU do?

learn to live off the land and you might be able to live without money. That is, assuming the land you're living off of is free. And nature is on your side. So basically, if you can make the tools to build your own shelter, produce your own food and keep yourself warm, I'd say you could live without money. It's just a lot more comfortable having a solid home with a heating system and electricity and food just a grocery store's trip away.

Money is important for food, shelter, clothes, and living, and without money, life would be less than grim. The problem of course, it that money seems to have a power because it changes the physical world, and so people begin to love money and trusting it to deliver happiness, etc.

Well, it keeps a roof over your head, clothes on your back, and food in your stomach. All else could be ignored, I'll bet, but those three are pretty important for basic survival, and without money you'd have to beg or steal it or something. It could be done, but I'm not sure how happy it'd make you.
