Not all democrats are on the left fringe or liberal. Point is very few democrats are for those things. It is his trade policy and views on foriegn affairs and economics that make dem or rep, social issues are for liberals and conservatives.

He very well could be a Democrat.

not necessarily, just because you belong to one party doesn't mean you have to believe in everything the party does. I'm a democrat, however I dont' believe in abortion, or embryonic stem cells (adult and cordblood yes), and I think the govt. needs to start imposing stiffer penalties and pushing the death penalty. People just automatically assume that since you are with one party, or another, you are a drone.

Actually, most smart people understand that social issues like the three you mentioned have no business being decided by the government in the first place. Thus, as long as he is still a big government, tax and spend sort of person, he IS a democrat.

You're a democrat (or republican, or green, or libertarian for that matter) if you call yourself one.

People affiliate with their parties for a variety of reasons, including what party their parents were. It isn't necessarily an indication of their beliefs on every issue.

There are always those crossover politicians -- the conservative democrat, the liberal republican. What most often characterizes the parties is their views on economic issues (labor, taxes, role of federal government); the social issues fracture a party -- ESPECIALLY the democratic party.
