The biggest heroes I have all know have a deep love for humanity and themselves in that order. In my book these people are both valuable and important.

In example my cousin won a silver star for saving 3 wounded men in battle during the Korean war. He carried no weapon and was and is today a devout Christian. I'd have to say he was very valuable and important to those men he pulled from the field under fire.

Hero is just another extremely overused word in our society these days. Like so many other things the true meaning of what a hero is has been dilluted. Beyond that, no, you don't need to be a hero to be important or valuable and people don't become heroes by TRYING to become heroes.

Valuable and important to who? To you? To society?

Everyone serves a purpose in life. Here's a story I heard. There was this old woman living on a block in Jersey I think, some years ago. She had a phobia of coming out of her house I forgot the name. She set her kitchen on fire accidentally and couldn't reach the phone. She had a neighbor, a young kid with problems and on the day she set the fire he was in his house contemplating suicide when he heard the woman screaming. Of course he called the fire dept and went over to help her and talked her out of the house. Saved her life. When they asked him why he helped her, because he had a reputation as a bad seed, he said,"she always smiled at me thru the window".
That boy became a firefighter and was there at the WTC on 9 11. Thats where he died.
Who was important to you?

no...everyone has a different opinion and different feelings. you could be totally and completely in love with your husband and he is very valuable and imprtant to you but he is just an ordinary man in other people's eyes. hes your hero though. its all in your perspective

Everybody is important. It's all relative. Someone crossing the street who you see not be particularly important to you, but he might be really important to someone else like his parents, his children, his significant other.
