RE:
My serpentine belt is cracked?
It is only a small crack, and tomorrow i have a Trip from NC to NY. Should I postpone the trip one day, or take the trip and change the belt once I get to NY?

Serp belts only take a few minutes to change if you have a 1/2 inch drive rachet or breaker bar. If it breaks on the road the headache factor greatly outweights the prevent maintenance factor. Serp belts drive the alternator, A/C, water pump etc. It takes less time to change than to fuel up. Change it now.

Delay the trip and get it replaced! The serpentine belt runs the car...if it snaps while on the trip, you will be stuck wherever this happens.

If the crack is across the grooves it is considered 'normal'. If it's on the other side of the belt then you should change it soon.
ADDITION: Buy one and carry it with you with the tool you need to change it. Just in case.

Just change it before you leave.....if you want to you can try to take the trip and be risky...but if something happens and you are in the middle of nowhere you will be in worse trouble. They aren't that expensive or hard to change. See if a friend knows how....have a good trip either way! Good luck and be safe! Mandy

It depends on how bad the crack is, usually I would replace it..but since you have the trip, you might not have time. Be prepared to get it done when you return and hopefully it holds out until then.

Neither. It takes ten minutes to change the belt. Get one right now and take care of it.
