Im trying to cultivate e.coli for a project. Also( and I know this sounds stupid) im going to need a microscope to view the bacteria, right? Or will it be visible to the naked eye? Thanks for the help!

E coli loves a basin or the floor or basically anything that has food for it. I suggest you go to a store that sells scientific equipment and buy a petri dish with agar gel in it. Agar gel is a substance that enables bacteria to grow on it. You should take your sample and gently rub it on the agar gel, but be sure that you do not let the dish be exposed too long to the air, because bacteria is everywhere and you might get some unwanted cultures on your dish.
You must then keep the dish at room temperature for at least three days.
The E.coli will be visible on the agar gel, but for best viewing of the culture, a microscope is needed, because without it you will only see a yellow line where you rubbed the sample.
A microscope is a scientists best friend, because with that we can see worlds that other people did not even know existed. you definitely need a microscope.

Sort of what Danelle said above, but you'll need nutrient agar, or a "complete medium" which contains sugars, fixed nitrogen, phosphates, and other substances that E. coli needs to live.

Keep them warm and moist. They grow well at human body temperature, 37 degrees celsius.
