I wanted to post 'This Land is Your Land,' but it was taken. Then I wanted to post Hendrix's 'Star-Spangled Banner,' but it too was taken. So my second-string choices are probably songs that are pained about America, but which express more love, through that pain, than any jingoistic claptrap ever could: Born in the USA, Bruce Springsteen Little Pink Houses, John Cougar Mellencamp Fortunate Son, Creedence Clearwater Revival Are they musically as accomplished as Sousa or Cohan? Not in a million years would I claim that. But do they make great points and make me more patriotic for being honest about America, warts and all? Absolutely.

I love "God Bless the U.S.A" sung by Jump5. The arrangement is beautiful, and I just love the song. But I also like "The Heart of America" which is a song my choir did not too long ago (which, I admit, I had a solo in).

my all time favorite is "God Bless the USA" even though you used that as an example. Everytime I hear it, my eyes fill up with tears- because we are so lucky to live here and have the brave soldiers keeping our freedom and losing their lives for us!
