The book on my 1999 Ford Windstar says every 5,000 miles. The dealership put a sticker in the car that says change after 3,000. The vehicle has 46,000 miles on it. So should I change it every 3 or 5 thousand? Oh, I drive on two miles of gravel per day and the rest is highway and I drive about 1,000 miles per month. Thanks!

Boy it never seems to suprize me as to what mis information there is out there.
It has nothing to do with changing the oil. If the manuals says 5000 then change it every 5000. BUT the word here is the filter.
Most quicky oil marts tell you to change it every 3000. That is why thy put on a $1.35 cent oil filter. That cheep A@# filter will maby on a good day keep your oil clean for 3000.

Look take it from a mechanic, if the manual says change it every 5000 do it, but put on a good oil filter. Fram is not I repete is not a good oil filter. Go to the auto parts store and tell the guy you want a good oil filter. Put in good oil, and then get a mantaince book and keep all the information in this book.
It will tell you when you did it and will also tell you how much you spend.

These quickey oil marts are out to get you to change it every 3000 and thy are the ones that started that crap of 3000.
That is because thy put on a cheep oil filter and it wont keep it clean any longer then 3000 miles if that.

It's usually good to change it every 3000 miles or 3 months. If you are driving on a gravel road and it has a lot of dust, change it like this. If thre's not a lot of dust or dirt, you could go to 5000.

Ford tells you 5000, because to wait longer would void your warranty. The dealership tells you 3000, because dealerships make a majority of their money servicing cars, and they want you back as often as possible.

Use a good quality oil filter, good quality oil, and you can last 5000. If 5000 was too long, Ford would tell you to do it more frequently because they wouldn't want to have to pay for your warranty repairs as a result.

the dealer told you 3000 because they want your business. i never do it right at 3000. usually more like 4 or 5. 1000 miles per months sounds pretty average, you shouldnt need your oil changed until 4 months or 4000 miles, minimum.

If you are using straight motor oil, I'd stick with 3000. If you are using a blend with synthetic like Valvoline Durablend you can extend it out another 1000-1500 miles.

i would change it every 3000 miles or every three months which ever comes first, the oil is the life blood of your engine, keep it clean, & you will reduce costly repairs.
