The first answer is incorrect - players can NOT sign on Wednesday.
Players have until Saturday, November 11th to file for free agency, and they can begin negotiations the next day.

The free agents can negotiate with there team starting after the W.S. Other teams can start talking to all free agents on Nov. 12

The deadline for filing is 11/11/06 then players
can sign with their favorite teams or the ones
offering the most money.

Although you here all the talks now, teams cannot make "offical" offers to free agents uuntil Novemebr 12.
