My wife is pregnant with our second child and she is in the 9th week. She is experiencing sharp pains and continuous mild pains in the abdominal region (stomach and intestines). The doctor sent her for an ultrasound and the fetus is developing well in the uterus. But why the constant pain? The first one was not like this and she is just 30 years old. Any thoughts? Any suggestions to make her feel better? Thanks.

I am 29 and NONE of my other kids did I have ANY pains with this one I had the doctor told me it was growing pains from the baby. They get better it takes time. There is nothing that you can do to help her. I KNOW! All you can do is reassure her that it will be over soon and it will be ALL worth it in the end! BEST WISHES and CONGRATS!

It's probably because the uterus stretches so much faster and is pushing on things much earlier and quicker than the past pregnancy. I just experienced it, and that's the explantation I got. I also have really bad round ligament pain in the lower abdominal area. It's just the second time around blues! If she is worried, maybe she should talk to her doctor once more. Good Luck!

I had such severe pains in my early pregnancy as well. To be honest they were worse then my labour pains, I had to pop tylenol off and on all day long for a few weeks. They were sharp stabbing pains which were caused by my ligaments expanding. Is the pain along the sides of her pelvis facing the thighs? That is where my pain was and it was ligiment pain caused by the uterus expanding and the cords thickening to hold the placenta in place. it goes away if thats what it is..or at least it did for me. it came back towards the end of my pregnancy but no where near as severe.

Occasional cramping is normal as the uterus grows to accommodate the baby, but continuous pain is not normal. This should be watched carefully by the doctor.

I had period type cramping till 12 weeks. There is also round ligament pain, that was more of the period comming feel and I still get that at 28 weeks. As long as the OB isnt worried about it, than it could be RLP.

she might be dehydrated, I had this early in my pregnancy, I thought I was loosing the baby it hurt so bad.
Also she might has gas pains, this happens too.
But most likely its the ligaments streatching, this is the most common question in women, whats that pain???

Good Luck! There is always some kind of pain, streatching etc. going on...Hopefully she can bear it for a bit.

I had pains like the ones you are describing through out my whole pregnancy. Sometimes they felt like menstrual crams and sometimes they were real sharp. My doctor told me that it was just my body stretching out and not to be concerned, he also said that it was possible that the baby was lying on a nerve. Good luck!

Probably gas pains from the uterine pressure on her intestines. Have her try simple beano, its harmless. I had pains like that with my pregnancies and people don't always realize just how painful they are. Elimintaing offending foods and adding more fibre helps too.

Enjoy your growing family!
