Could he have an infection? He has a cold at the moment & he has a dummy to. Could that be anything to do with it. I've never noticed it before though, only in the past 4 days. Should i get gim checked out?

Don't panic !

It's probably because he has Catarrh blocking his nose, the mucus will drip to the back of his throat and make his breath/ saliva smell.

Also breath smells worse if you are dehydrated so make sure you give him plenty of fluids, he probably has a temperature.

It could be because he may also be teething, children's breath also can smell funny as the gum breaks down over a tooth coming through.

It's nothing to worry about, and I hope your son feels much better soon x

I have had the exact same thing with both my son's and yes they did have infections. You really need to go to the doctors as soon as you can and get a professional opinion. Don't listen to Internet chat that suggest it may be something simple. The best thing you can do for your child is to get him seen by a doctor. It is always better to be safe than sorry, especially with children.

The thing is that you can worry yourself sick, looking at what to do or what not to do. Who do you believe, what should you do? Too many questions for you to deal with in my opinion.

I'm not medically trained (other than your usual First Aid at work) but I would strongly suggest that to put your mind at rest and to ease your son's pain you contact the NHS DIRECT and speak to them.

You'll end up speaking to a nurse and then a doctor and they will advise you on what steps to take and whether they'll want to see your son tonight. Take the worry out of it for yourself and do the right thing by your child.

Good Luck

I would get it checked out. Smelly breath in an infant of that age needs to be sorted as it could be a stomach problem. The smell of your breath is produced by the gasses and chemicals in your stomach. Be on the safe side.

Could be a sinus infection if his saliva/breath smells especially bad.
