1. make a list of all your skills
a. by skills I mean skills that would apply regardless
of company field.
2. with each skill write a short paragraph explaining this
skill. explain your duties regarding this skill.
3. shop yourself-based on what you say I assume you are supposed to be a lower to mid level manager-meaning directly over workers and not over another manager/supervisor.

this is oneof the hardest positions to hire into. this is, usually, a position which is filled by promotion from within. again, usually, the only way to be hired into this position is a lateral move-by this I mean to a company that does/makes/sells etc. essentially the same product as your present company.
next, think of what your boss will say about you/your work.I realize that they can not say anything other than dates of employment, but a lot can be said without saying much. "would you hire this person again?/"not in a million years" or "I don't think I would" etc. be prepared and have answers-your biggest hurdle in this case is to get the interview. If it benefits you enclude your work record.

feel around-check the water. if there's a market for your skills THEN you have two options
1. go somewhere else
2. go to your management and present WRITTEN!!!!!
what you've worked up. state you really love YOUR company, but you feel you're not being utilized to the extent you are capable of. "I would much rather stay here, but I would need ??? (think this over-what do you want?
Let them/him/her chew on this for a while. PUT A TIME LIMIT. say "I would like to make a decision by ? no more than a week-I have two(?) companies interested in hireing me at the (whatever you stipulated above)

NOW THE STICK!!! if you do this be prepared to have the boss tell you to go ahead and go. that's why you do your homework beforehand-if there are no companies out there who want you (in a position you want) then you change this around and approach management with the skills stuff (technical term) you worked up and say "I think I have earned a promotion/raise and this is the reason. don't throw it in his/her face that you do more than ?? and they are ?? if he/she has anything on the ball at all then they know all this. this letter tells the boss you are not happy with what you are paid for what you do. they will either tell you "sorry there is no way I can do??? at this time-this will mean, usually-unless the comapany is in trouble, that they think much less of you/your skills than you do. suck it up and live with it-without promotions (probably ever-they've learned you'll back down) on move on.
I noticed you're a woman-the boss may have a prejudice against women-men NEED to earn more, etc. if dat's de case then you'll have to move on-your work is fine-that's just all a woman is worth in that job.
