It depends on what you mean by trust. For instance, many companies are reliable for selling you products, but will send you junk mail.

Most of the banks and chain stores you visit in real life will have websites. Generally I trust their websites a fair amount, but I do read their privacy policies before I give them my email, and I read their return policies before I buy (sometimes the return policy for things bought online can be pretty annoying).

Companies like Amazon, Ebay, Yahoo and Google are pretty widely known and trusted. They don't have retail stores you can visit in person, but you can easily find their address and customer service phone numbers online. They also clearly post their privacy policies, and return policies.

If someone recommends a company to you or they have used or ordered from them and are satisfied then I would say you can trust them.
