When playing online poker ,when I get a 3 of a kind or 2 pair , I lose because the winning player of the hand has a straight most of the time . I keep forgeting about straight's. I practice trying to figure out what they could possibly have that's a hand higher than mine .

How can I improve trying to figure out if they have a straight ??
To put it bluntly help me get my straight's straight ??

Always watch the lower cards. I used to lose to straights all the time because I was looking for high cards figuring they were only playing good starting hands. I would play a JJ and the flop would be 5 6 8 or something like that. I would bet 3x the pot and they would go over the top of me. I would always fall for it. Now I just let it go. The amount of times you will get bluffed that way compared to the amount of times you will lose your shirt...not worth it. My answer is watch the low cards and if they go over assume they are going straight over the top and have the hand.

You need to understand how to protect yourself against drawing hands. It might be as simple as you're playing too low a level to raise or bet enough to scare off the draws, such as straight draws.

It's also wise that you do NOT draw when the board is unfavourable. Example, don't draw to a straight if there are three of a suit (flushing) there, or the board is paired.

You need to study to get your game up to the next level. We'd be happy to help!

if they have 4 cards in a row such as 6,7,8,9, then can make a straight with either a 5 or a 10. That is called an outside straight. An inside straight would be if you had 5,6,8,9, and drew a 7. inside staraights are much harder to hit.
