if so, how soon after I eat a meal... does it get to the baby?

It goes through the unbilical cord to their tummy, not to their mouths. So they don't taste the food, they just get the nutrients from it.

Appearently they don't get the actual taste of the food from the umbilical cord, just the nutrients. If you eat a strong flavor or a lot of a certain food, then the flavor can pass into the amniotic fluid. After a couple of months the baby swallows the fluid on a regular basis, therefor "tasting" the food that you eat.

Babies dont taste the food until the second trimester i think it is. Its almost imediate. They make faces in the womb based on food flavors that the mother eats...

on of the videos on there actually talks about the faces a fetus makes because of food tastes :) I dont know which one or which age.. just check through them. Its an awesome site anyway.
