The Terminator (1984)

Directed by James Cameron, the premise of the movie is that a "Terminator" cyborg has been transported back in time from 2029 to May 12th, 1984 to assassinate a woman named Sarah Connor (played by Linda Hamilton). Issues raised by the film include time travel, causal loops and artificial intelligence.

The sequels to the movie, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, further developed the story line and explored the ethical implications of machine intelligence as well as what it means to be truly human.

The property has also been adapted into video games and comic books, including some in which the characters are paired with (or against) characters from other movie-licensed properties, including Predator, Robocop, Superman and Alien.

"Sophie's Choice". Before "Schindler's List" there was "Sophie's Choice" that retold the atrocities of the Holocaust. A deep & disturbing movie. One of the all time classics. Meryl Streep's haunting performance leaves a lasting impression and won the actress a well deserved Oscar.

There were so many great movies in the 80s, but I'd have to say "Sixteen Candles" was the best.
