No one can fault Carter for the accident. It was a tragedy that just happened.
You're right. He was telling people 30 years ago that we needed to do something about our dependence on foreign oil. Nothing was done. Reagan could have probably done the most due to his popularity but he chose not to address the issue.

Inflation was really bad. Gas prices were skyrocketing. He gave the Panama Canal back to Panama. He pardoned Viet Nam deserters who fled to Canada. In short, he did a lot of things that conservatives hated, and very few things that liberals appreciated. In many ways, he was a victim of his times. But the worst was that, when things were getting bad, he didn't step up and LEAD. People will weather bad times if they have a good leader. Carter was not.

everyone i have ever talked to said he was the worst president of their lifetime (besides the few people I have met who were alive durign the Hoover administration). He did almost nothing good in his office. The only thing good was the Egypt-Israeli peace deal. He left with an awful economy and nothing to show for his presidency. He was an awful president

I'm not old enough to know, but his son Jack Carter is running for senator in my state, and all the older people I've talked to have compared him to his father and said hell no they wouldn't vote for Jack.
Sorry I couldn't answer your question, but that is what I've heard, and I agree with Creston, everyone I've talked to, grandparents, parents, and their friends, all say he is the worst President. I didn't really ask why because I didn't really care

His biggest failure was changing US policy towards Iran. This change led to the removal of the US friendly Shah. This led to the creation of the Islamic theocracy which now hates the US and western society.

Does 'economic malaise' ring a bell? What about the oil crunch that he did nothing about? Oh, right. 'Wear a sweater'.
And let them eat cake!
