My best friend is male and currently has a GF. He says I am very special to him because we share many common interests and he feels like he can talk about anything around me, even when he's depressed. He does not feel the same way around his GF but he insists he loves her very much and is working on the communication part. His GF tolerates his interests but does not take a big interest in them. He says he loves me like a sister because I am always on his mind and he does not want to lose me. Should I be concerned about their relationship? Could he be my soulmate?

My next question: If we are truly platonic friends, then what qualities do I need to look for in a boyfriend?

You are using each other as a "pseudoboyfriend" and girlfriend. You have all the connections except physical intimacy. If you want him as a real bf then you should tell him, otherwise you both have to back off. Your relationship will interfere with his girlfriends and your future boyfriends. If he was married, his wife would probably say he was cheating on her emotionally with you.

Friendships are very sacred. I have a very good friend whom I known for over 15 years. She's a female, I'm a male. We started out as BF and GF. After less than a year we concluded that a platonic relationship would be best. In our trying time, we share experiences and offer advice to each other. She is currently married and so am I. I would not change this relationship for the world. Take your time to consider the value of your friendship oppose to an intimate relationship with him. Which is more important to you??

I've had the same friendship with a woman for 25 years. I can tell her ANYTHING and vice-versa, because we know we won't be judgmental. A few times we've thought of crossing the line, but it would ruin what we have. We've been there for bfs, gfs, and our marriages. We still married to our spouses, btw.
