Yes, you can read info on a NTFS formatted external HD using Mac OS 10.3 and 10.4. You cannot copy or save any new data to the drive from the Mac. You will also note that Mac OS X is much more sensative to errors on the drive so sometimes the drive will mount and work fine in Windows but not on the Mac. If you repair the drive with a good disk utility or reformat the drive, it will loose all its errors and work fine on the Mac.

Why do you want to use NTFS? Can't you just use an external FAT32 formatted HD? Then you can read or write data with any version of Mac OS X. Happy days!

Sorry but no. NTFS is a microsoft format. There is no native way to do it. Though there may be 3rd party software. Otherwise you could go with a boot disk linux that if compiled right can read from it but not write.

It's the OS, not the processor.

There is one opensource project. It sez don't install on Mac OS 10.3 or 10.4. NTFS has always been nothing but grief from my experience.
