how big can rats get?

My pet rats have never gotten bigger than a squirrel but in some freak circumstances I have seen them about a foot long (man that was freaky). They make wonderful pets. My last one traveled with my husband and I cross country 4 X, would come when I called her and played fetch. She was awesome!!

i've had two pet rats...they make AMAZING pets and don't worry about the size (they get to be about the size of a squirrel at the largest). if you are considering getting one...really follow through. they are incredible. i taught mine to come when i called them (yes, even outside). they have the reasoning ability of a 3-year-old child...

the biggest my pet rat got was like 3pounds but he was a very chucky male.. but they make great pets.. he would even come to his name being called..
