Muffin and Starkey are lucky ... they've never discovered the downside of ouija boards.
OK they seem like toys, you can buy them in toy stores/book shops or make your own one at using torn up paper and a glass ... but for every "yea! they're fun!" answer I'll bet there are a lot of folk like me, who 'played' with the homemade kind in their teenaged years not realising the danger.
Then one day you experience the self animated manic glass. Maybe you encounger the red hot one that burns your fingers. Or, most dramatic of all ... the hovering a foot above the table and exploding kind! (And we had been taught how to summon and dismiss properly, most dabblers dont!)
Isn't it strange how there is always the usual order of play ... first ask if 'there's anyone there'' then call up a family member or friend who have passed over. Next try a famous person or historical character, then perhaps a saint or an angel (and ask if god really exists or what it's like in heaven). Then some wag decides that calling up a (or the) devil would be fun ....
None of this tends to end well. At the best nightmares and fear of the dark (though I have to admit that our sessions took place in the daytime and sunshine makes the outcome no less scary!)
and there are plenty of urban legends about what might happen in the worst case scenario!
There are many places on the net you can read the pros and cons, the opinions of the fors and the donts. A good general one is The Ouija Debate by Stephen Wagner, found at http://paranormal.about.com. There are surveys and articles etc.
Another interesting site is The Museum of Talking Boards - www.museumoftalkingboards.com - a great place to read about the history of American Ouija and see galleries of photos of the various boards that have been made. It does have a 'web ouija board', which looks spookily real, but this is one that really is just for fun- as it has preprogrammed computer generated answers!
Personally I have warned all my daughters about the dangers of ouija boards ... not just a bland 'DONT'. We have discussed the whys and wherefors and hows and how not to's. So hopefully none of them will have the problems or unfortunate experiences my friends and I did all those years ago.
In my experience NO ouija board is ever really safe to use.

No, not unless you know what you are doing, the danger most of the time is in the mind, you must ask yourself can you really trust the people who are there with, will they push the glass, just think how that might upset someone, and then if strange things start to happen you will blame the board. If you are using a real Ouija board they do work, but leave it to those who know what they are doing, and seek help and protection before they start.
DON'T USE HOME MADE ONES

Ouija boards are safe to use as long as you know what you are doing and how to do it properly.
Remember, the board is just that a 'board' it's how you use it.
Many people just 'play' with them which has led them to having bad experiences, many people also ask stoopid questions which has led to bad experiences.
Before using the board, make sure you are well protected (white light) Ask for no bad energies, only energies from the light. Always say thankyou and always end it with 'goodbye'
Ouija boards are not a game, they should not be sold as a game. It is a tool to communicate with the other side and are totally safe if you know how to use them properly.

Using Ouija boards can be tricky. As with any form of spirit channeling, it's hard to control what comes through. To better protect yourself, make a "Bubble" Picture yourself engulfed in pure white light energy, and make it into a shield so that nothing wishing you harm can come through. Doing this I've never had a bad experience, without I've seen some nasty nasty ghoulies come through. Also, if you have yet to purchase your board, you may consider a "Psychic Circle Board" It's basicly the same thing, but instead of just letters, and numbers, theres also words, symbols, and colors, making it much easier to communicate.
Good Luck! :)

no they are very dangerous, just because a person had died it doesn't mean they are good, if you were an evil person in life you do not suddenly become an angel when you are dead and it is these evil spirits you can sometimes contact, or other entities, if you have to do it then you should arm yourself with all the right incenses and coloured candles and amulets and occult signs for protection that you can and ask that only good spirits come through and that your guardian angels watch over you, there is a myth that says you have to ask the spirit if it is good three times as it cant lie more than 3 times, but i have heard a lot of scary stories about people who have gone on the board and scary and dangerous things have happened to them and their home, hope this helps, good luck.

sometimes.but i have advices for you on this things. (1)you must make sure that you do not anger the spirit in any forms of way as they may take actions against you. (2)always have a professional paranomal investigator to help you with this kind of thing as they know more about paranomal stuff than you do. (3)dont ever do this alone by yourself as it may make you an easy target for the ghost to take action against you when nobody's around to help you. (4)make sure that you're prepared to face this kind of thing. (5)dont ever burn the ouija board as it will break the spiritual gate and the ghost will be stuck in the place where you communicated with it.

When you use a spirit board like that. You open yourself up to the spirit world. Spirits, both good and bad, can come on the board to talk to you. I would advise against using a spirit board. Too much negative energy and bad things could happen.

I am a practicing intuitive, and I will not have one in my home or at my place of business.
I have just had too many people come to me, asking me why things keep going wrong after they have "asked" entities in through unknown portals via the ouija board.
there are so many other ways to contact those beyond the curtain....
I would choose the later
