I'm much younger than 40. So I think that life begins when you decide to begin it. Maybe now?

Life begins when you are aware enough to ask the question. Our body goes through 7 year cycles of growth and change. We have a completely new body every 7 years. This goes for brain functions, hormone production, and chemical balance reactions. Think of each stage of your, (or others), life. At 7 your are still naive, but starting to really build memories, logic, and family dynamics. At 14 your hormones are controlling your brain. At 21 you start really being an independant person, working and living on your own. At 28 you have gained much of the worlds lessons in love and work. At 35 you begin to slow down and reflect on where you are going and where you have been. At 42 you have finally put it all together know what you are really going to do, and usually make a big change around then, (mid-life crisis). I think this is why people say life begins at 40, but it is really about self awareness and enjoying each and every moment of life as you live it. I would suggest the book Be Here Now.

I believe more that life begins somewhere around age 12 to 15. Of course you become more knowledgable and experienced the older you get. But if you have not been living the past fourty years of your life, what have you been doing? Children's memories and consciousness are not fully developed til they are five, and they will not use metacognition (thinking about thinking, or about what you know or don't know, about WHY you do certain things..) until age 11. They often are exposed to more elements in high school and here they become more intelligent and open-minded. Of course it does depend on the individual.

I don't know - I've had some great times since I turned 40, but I had some great times before I turned 40. I think that is said because it used to be that by the time you turned 40 your kids were mostly grown, and you could start to devote more time to yourself. But I really don't know.

40 gives you a deeper knowledge of things that happen. Just wait till you are 50, the knowledge increases!!!! Sadly increased knowledge comes with decreased energy and power!!!!

Like bellydancer says - you gain great insight and wisdom with age. Unfortunately, that wisdom comes with decreased stamina.

However, 40 is when many people really "grow up" and give up their quasi-Bohemian lifestyles.

I'm 44 as of 2 days ago and my life started a while ago but it's still trickling in day by day. I imagine it will be till I snuff it.
