As has already been noted, Joe Jr. was not shot. He was killed in World War II.
However, he was not shot down, as has been stated. He was flying a modified B-24 Liberator bomber which was loaded with more than 21,000 pounds of explosives. The intent was to bail out of the plane, which would then crash into a hardened bunker containing a super cannon, one of the Nazi wonder weapons. Once the crew bailed out, the plane was to be guided the short distance to its target by remote control from a chase plane.
Unfortunately, the explosives detonated prematurely, for reasons that have never fully been explained. The plane, and the two men in it, were basically vaporized

Joe Kennedy, JFK's older brother, was killed in World War II. His airplane was shot down by the enemy.

Joe Kennedy was killed in WWll, but Robert Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan.

He wasnt shot. He died when his plane was shot down during service in the navy during WWII
