I have dile up and every time I try to dile the number to connect it says the line is busy. I know that the line is not busy and that no other users are currently connected so what is it doing it, it never did this before? Is it my fault of my ISP's fault?

This could be a hardware problem in your modem.

There are many things to check and look at first though.
1) modems (typ[ically) have a jack in the back for a phone. Plug a phone in and dial the number exactly as your modem does - see if you hear a busy signal - if not try with your modem. If it is buy - it's busy.
2) If you get loud squeals your modem should be able to connect - however; if your modem is saying it's busy then your modem is having a hard time communicating with this other modem. Ask your ISP if they have another phone number you can try.
3) I have seen this issue before - as an issue with how your modem communicates with the other modem - which typically means it is your modem that is having problems and may need to be replaced. Before going out and spending $$$ for a new dialup modem though contact your ISP they should be able to walk you through some troubleshooting steps to better assist you. - If not you can always try and see if there is a local bulletin board system that you can call into to test your modem.

it's more likely your ISP problem. try get an alternate number to dial in during busy time from your ISP. well, if u suspect that your modem is causing the problem. take a phone set and connect to the phone line you connect to the modem, then dial the number for your dial up and listen to it. if it's the busy tone. then confirm is your ISP problem.

I would contact your ISP. If they have too many people trying to get in on that number and they have not configured the trunkin g system to route the calls to open modems then you will not get on. Have you tried to call the number on your phone and heard the modem try to answer?

It means the number u r dialing is busy, like it says. You can go into your setup and choose different numbers for your modem to try so you will have more options at chances to get online quicker.
