Usually there should be something printed on the label about side-effects ect., but I think they are generally safe. Some people have allergies to them, but I've used them for years, and yes they do work. Leave it on recommended time test a little spot, ect. Just don't get it in mouth or eyes!

They work but not completely (at least in my case) I still end up shaving to have a cleaner, closer shave. Plus, they stink and I hate having to stand for 5 to 10 minutes to wait for the stuff to activate all to just have to shave anyway in the end. It becomes a longer process and a stinky one...

I dont think they're bad for you - I use them because I cannot stand waxing and refuse to suffer every two weeks the indiginty of waxing so I use the creams - they are virtually painless and in 5 to ten minutes the hair is gone.

No, they aren't. If you choose a good line of cremes you won't have problems. Usually they work and some of them are very good.
