it wont burn-cpu wont detect it and device manager dont display it-but i can get the tray to open and close

did it work before? have you made any software changes or anything to your PC? Did you try reinstalling the drivers and the software? If you have and that hasn't worked I would say that it is a hardware failure.

I'd say that's pretty good evidence that it's broken. If you replace it with a new one, and it works, that proves it. Fortunately, CD burners are not expensive these days.

well the tray opens cuz the power suppy is connected and try to reinstall the drive's drivers

depending on a cd burner there will be a red light on it or there will be a message telling theres a problem

buy a new one they are generally unfixable - even if it did start working again you would loose confidence in it, plus, it would probably burn dud cd's
