So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

No we are not. We assume that the universe is expanding to infinity and since we already exist, it shows that the probability that there can be life in the universe is greater than 0. And since the universe is expanding to infinity, it is the proof that we are not alone in the universe. If you need more explanation just take a look at my previous answers...

I do not believe we are. The universe is so big, it would be a waste of space if Earth was the only planet to have life. Other planets must have life on them. This life will not look like life we know, but it would be life.

We are just one planet around one star amongst a galaxy of billions of stars - amongst billions of other galaxies.

If life and civilization has happened on our planet it has probabilistically happened on millions of others.

So there are millions of other civilizations out there - some just beginning and some millions of years more advanced than us.

On earth we have only had "technology" for about 75 years and look how far we have come in this short time. So what boggles my mind is how advanced must other civilizations be - civilizations that have had technology for millions of years.

They sure are out there - and I am sure that they have gotten past all of the crap that's in our rotten civilization and living a life of pure utopia.

Maybe, maybe not.

I say that anyone who is sure we are not alone is a fool.

I also say that anyone who is sure we are alone is a fool.

The only reasonable answer is that we just don't know. Not a clue.

But my opinion is that we probably are not alone. It is just a feeling though, I have no proof.

No one knows, but what is the point of asking a question that can't be answered except with a guess ?

Hi. For the time being it would be better if we (humanity) acted that way. Earth is precious.

Probably. This statement does not apply to visiting extradimensionals, though.
