Unions are almost always straight through pushing for the Democrats... why is this? And why if Bush has been in power for the past six years, nothing has changed in the Union my boyfriend works for? Is this on a state level or government level? This is important for our votes today.

Hi Laura, I hope you elaborate when I answer... The union is saying if we don't vote democrat, my boyfriend's wages could be cut in half if a Republican wins. That is why i said nothing has changed with republicans in power... their wages have stayed high.. are they doing scare tactics, or being truthful? I'm just curious

Labor unions donate huge sums of money to politicians. They expect favoritism once that person get elected. It is often said that Democrats are in the back pocket of labor unions. Labor unions have ties to organized crime (i.e. the Mafia). Often, they expect the politician to look the other way when crime/corruption occurs involving labor unions.

I don't know that Liberals "promise" unions although it's true democrats have a long history of supporting worker's rights in general and tend to believe companies are only as strong as their workers. Republicans are more likely to support large corporations-supply side economics/trickle down theory. Today, especially, this translates to workers' rights since corporations often improve their bottom lines by cutting benefits or outsourcing. Unions also have a long history-they started in order to fight for workers rights. Employers paid wages even below the poverty line and called it "free market" hiring. Because people were starving they chose to go to work because that's all there was, which drove wages down(the free market). The Unions were formed so workers could have collective bargaining which is really an agreement for workers to band together, demand a minimum standard, wages or benefits and agree to strike if the employer won't bargain.
I'm not sure what you mean about "nothing has changed" but I do believe that if you don't believe in the union "way", you shouldn't work or vote union . That seems hypocritical.

Labor unions are designed the protect the hard-working employees of a company from the management. In the late 19th and early 20th century, company owners had total control of the labor force. As an employee, you had to do whatever the boss asked, had to accept whatever pay they offered, had to work whatever overtime they required. Blacklists and collusion among the bosses made it impossible to switch jobs. Sixteen-hour days and dangerous working conditions were common. Employees in the sweatshops of New England in the 1870s were as much slaves as the blacks in the South had been.
That's where Unions came in. Bosses, with the help of the GOP, tried to break the unions and make them illegal. Unions, with Democrat support, continued to survive and win concessions. Because of this historic relationship, Democrats are seen as the supports of labor (unions) while Republicans are seen as the support for management. And for the most part, this is still true today.

Your question implies that you think there's something wrong with unions. In fact, unions helped save America from traitorous Republicans who hate America.
